Spring 2008
Dear Neighbors,
I hope you are now enjoying the long awaited Spring weather. This season brings so many new colors to the landscape! Please read the valuable information enclosed in this issue.

Sincerely,
Mayor John Gentless

MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONIES:
On May 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. the Memorial Day Ceremonies will begin at War Memorial Park in front of the Fire Hall. Presentations will be made honoring those men and women that served our country. Please join us in saluting our veterans.

At 11:00 a.m. the William P. Keeney Memorial VFW Post would appreciate your attendance at their ceremony as well. The Post is located on Pennsylvania Avenue at Laurel Road . Your attendance is always welcomed. Refreshments will be served.

BOARD OF HEALTH:
The Stratford Board of Health would like to thank the citizens in town who responded to their recent animal census. This is a state mandated survey to be conducted every two years. If you have not responded as yet, you may do so by calling the Borough Hall at 783-0600 and giving them your name, address and number of pets even if it's zero.
Also the Board of Health regrets that people had to be turned away its rabies clinic on March 29th. The County did not send us ample supplies even though we had requested more. The Board of Health take responsibility to provide this free clinic very seriously and was upset that we ran short of serum. Many thank to Mayor John Gentless and our Fire Company for their assistance.

ANIMAL LICENSE:
If you have not licensed your cat or dog please do so as soon as possible. The late fee is now in effect. During May the late fee is $10.00 per pet, and each month thereafter it is an additional $5.00 with a maximum late fee of $25.00 per pet. Each year it takes the Borough staff numerous hours, after April 1st, to keep reminding residents to license their pets. The license process is simple and can be completed at Borough Hall, or even by mail. We will require the new vaccination information (if your pet was required to be re vaccinated this year) and the renewal fee to the Borough Hall and we will send your license and tag back to you. If you have any questions or no longer have your pet, please contact the Borough Hall.

SOLUTIONS TO STORMWATER POLLUTION:
Pollution on our streets, parking lots and lawns are washed into storm drains; then directly into our drinking water supply, the ocean and the lakes our children play in. You name it; detergents, fertilizer, grass clippings, oil, pesticides, pet waste, etc. all end up in our water.
Storm water pollution is one  of New Jersey's greatest threats to clean and plentiful water, and that's why we're doing something about it.
By sharing the responsibility and making small, easy changes to our daily lives, we can common pollutants out of storm water. It all ads up to cleaner water and it saves the high cost of cleaning up once it's dirty.
As part of New Jersey's initiative to keep our water clean and plentiful and to meet federal requirements; many municipalities and other public agencies including, colleges and military bases must adopt ordinances or other rules prohibiting various activities that contribute to storm water pollution. Breaking these rules can result in fines or other penalties.
*As a resident, business, or other member of the New Jersey community, it is important to know these easy things you can do every day to protect our water *Limit your use of fertilizers and pesticides *Properly use and dispose of hazardous products *Keep pollution out of storm drains *Clean up after your pet *Don't feed wildlife *Don't litter *Dispose of yard waste properly.
